Continue to mitigate the risks during rising COVID-19 cases

Whilst the UK Government may have ended free Covid testing and many NHS testing laboratories have closed or are closing, we should not lose sight of the fact Covid cases remain prevalent across the UK.

It remains critical that everyone continues the fight to reduce the risks of spreading the virus, even if you are fully vaccinated, you can still catch Covid, especially anyone with pre-existing medical conditions.

The UK Government advises that if you have symptoms, you should try to stay at home and away from others to avoid passing on the virus. However, it is worth remembering that 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 will show no symptoms.

Therefore, the wearing of masks in public places, regular health checks using rapid lateral flow testing kits and maintaining hand hygiene should still be priorities for everyone.

Rapid flow testing
Rapid lateral flow tests should continue to be used on a frequent basis to help detect COVID-19, even if someone isn’t experiencing any symptoms. Spirit Medical Lateral Flow test kits are on the Government list of approved products.

Those that have a confirmed case of Covid, can still infect other people for up to 10 days from the start of their symptoms and therefore need to regularly test themselves until they are fully recovered.

Like a lot of medical products, test kits vary in quality. Therefore, it’s important to only purchase those that are on the Government list of approved products, which includes the Spirit Medical lateral flow test kit.

Mask wearing
By wearing a mask in public places, you play a significant role in not only protecting yourself but also others, helping to reduce the spread of the virus.

Even though wearing a face mask is not mandatory in most public places, it is strongly recommended, especially on public transport and in shops, banks, restaurants and when visiting sports, entertainment and hospitality venues.

When purchasing face masks, ensure that you buy the best, which includes Spirit Medical’s Type IIR mask, rated in the highest protection bracket of 99.7% and above.

When a person with COVID-19 talks, breathes or coughs, tiny droplets and aerosols are released into the air. These can be breathed in by another person as the virus can remain for up to 20 minutes in the air after an infected person has left!!

Hand hygiene
As well as continuing to follow the guidance on social distancing, it is also extremely important to maintain good hygiene levels by regularly washing your hands properly and by keeping areas clean and germ-free, especially within the home and workplace.

Please see our hand washing guide below to ensure correct hand washing, combined with hand and surface sanitiser use to ensure germs are killed properly.
